# Under 12 months of history: no full year to judge

Short answer: A business between six and twelve months old has not shown a full year, so seasonality and longer-term churn are not visible yet. That does not rule it out, but it puts more weight on the months it has. Ask for monthly revenue and profit since launch and the source of new customers each month.

Updated 7 October 2026 · Checker rule YOUNG

## When the checker raises it

Raised as medium severity when the business is at least 6 but under 12 months old. Under 6 months raises the high-severity flag instead.

## Why it matters

In a full year you see the slow months as well as the good ones. Without them, a 12-month average does not exist, and a price on a few months' average is a price on the best case.

Young businesses are common in the $10k–150k range, as the figure below shows.

## How often we see it

In our October 2026 benchmark data (https://firstpassmemo.com/data/), 11 of the 31 listings with a stated age were under 12 months old. That data covers 36 listings priced $10k–150k from the WebsitesForSaleOnline public API, Empire Flippers excluded, using the figures each listing states.

## A worked example

Composite example, not a real listing

iOS habit-tracker app with subscriptions on the App Store, 4.6 rating Asking price: $28,000 Average monthly revenue: $1,400 Average monthly profit: $1,250 Business age: 9 months Owner hours: 4 hours per week

What the red-flag checker (https://firstpassmemo.com/checker/) returns: payback of 22.4 months on average monthly profit, and this flag:

Medium About 9 months of history

Less than a full year, so seasonality and longer-term churn are not visible yet.

Ask: Can you show monthly revenue and profit since launch, with the main source of new customers each month?

The same example also raises: Depends on Apple App Store (https://firstpassmemo.com/flags/depends-on-a-platform/), No churn figure for a recurring-revenue business (https://firstpassmemo.com/flags/no-churn-figure/), No connected data source mentioned (https://firstpassmemo.com/flags/no-connected-data-source/), Concentration not disclosed (https://firstpassmemo.com/flags/concentration-not-disclosed/).

## What to check

- Ask for monthly revenue and profit since launch.

- Ask where new customers came from each month.

- Work out payback on the latest three months as well as on the average.

## Questions to send the seller

- Can you show monthly revenue and profit since launch, with the main source of new customers each month?

- When did the business first make revenue, and can you show every month since?

- Where did the first customers or visitors come from, and does that source still work today?

- Was there a launch, a feature on a large site, or a promotion that drove the early months?
