How much is a YouTube channel worth?

Short answer: A YouTube channel is worth a multiple of its verified profit, not its subscriber count. Flippa's H1 2026 report puts sold YouTube businesses at 1.57 times annual profit on average and 2.65 times for the top quarter. Pay less when views depend on one presenter or a few videos, and check that ownership can move.

Why aren't subscribers a measure of value?

Subscribers do not pay you; views that earn money do, and only some subscribers watch. Two channels with the same subscriber count can differ tenfold in profit, depending on the topic's ad rates, sponsorships, how recent the views are, and what the channel costs to run. Buyers pay for verified profit, so start there.

What do YouTube channels sell for in 2026?

Flippa's H1 2026 Insights report (updated 24 July 2026, read 7 October 2026) puts the average profit multiple for sold YouTube businesses at 1.57x, with the top quarter at 2.65x. The same report says YouTube sales rose 23% and overtook content sites in volume. That is a lower multiple than the report gives for content sites or SaaS, which fits a business that often depends on one presenter and one platform. Our own October 2026 sample had too few YouTube listings to publish a figure.

What is a channel worth once you pay a presenter?

Many channels look profitable because the seller presents for free. If the seller's face or voice is the channel, you either present yourself or pay someone, and viewers may not follow the change. The composite below makes $2,300 a month as listed; paying a replacement presenter $900 a month cuts the value by about 40% at either multiple.

ScenarioMonthly profitAt 1.57× (Flippa YouTube average)At 2.65× (Flippa YouTube top quarter)
As listed: seller presents for free$2,300$43,332$73,140
Paying a replacement presenter $900 a month$1,400$26,376$44,520

Value = monthly profit × 12 × multiple. Multiples: Flippa H1 2026 Insights, sold YouTube businesses.

Check the presenter question first. Then look at concentration: if a handful of old videos bring most of the views, the income rests on videos you cannot easily repeat.

How do I verify a channel's revenue?

Ask for a live screen share of YouTube Studio, with you choosing what to open: revenue and views by month for 12 to 24 months, revenue by video, and traffic sources. Ask for sponsorship contracts and the payments behind them. Match AdSense payouts in Studio to bank deposits. Screenshots can be edited and prove little on their own.

Can a YouTube channel be transferred to me?

Ownership can move only if the channel is linked to a Brand Account. YouTube Help (read 7 October 2026) says that without a Brand Account you can change channel managers but not owners, and that to transfer ownership the channel must be converted to a Brand Account by removing all the roles in its permissions. Plan the handover inside escrow: you become an owner, the seller sets you as primary owner, and the seller's access is removed before the money is released. Whether a sale suits YouTube's other rules, and what else to check, is on is buying a YouTube channel worth it?
