Red flag explained · Traffic and platforms

No traffic data for a traffic-driven site

Short answer: Revenue for content, affiliate, ad-supported and video businesses follows traffic. A listing that gives no pageviews, sessions or traffic split leaves you nothing to check the revenue against. Ask for 12 to 24 months of analytics and Search Console data before you rely on the revenue figures.

Updated 7 October 2026 · Checker rule NO_TRAFFIC

When the checker raises it

Raised as medium severity when the listing looks like a content, affiliate, display-ad or YouTube business and gives no traffic split and no pageviews, visitors or sessions.

Why it matters

Revenue per thousand pageviews (RPM) is a simple cross-check: monthly ad revenue divided by monthly pageviews, times 1,000. If the result is far above what similar sites earn, ask why. Without traffic you cannot run that check.

Traffic history also shows Google update hits, seasonality and decline, none of which a revenue average shows.

A worked example

Composite example, not a real listing

Affiliate site comparing home espresso machines, Amazon Associates
Asking price: $28,000
Average monthly revenue: $1,250
Average monthly profit: $1,100
Business age: 3 years
Owner hours: 3 hours per week

What the red-flag checker returns: payback of 25.5 months on average monthly profit, and this flag:

  1. Medium No traffic data for a traffic-driven site

Revenue for this kind of site follows traffic, and the listing gives no traffic figures to check it against.

Ask: Can you share 12 to 24 months of analytics and Search Console data?

The same example also raises: Depends on Amazon, No connected data source mentioned, Concentration not disclosed.

What to check

Questions to send the seller

  1. Can you share 12 to 24 months of analytics and Search Console data?
  2. Can you share 12 to 24 months of analytics with the traffic split by source?
  3. Has traffic had any sudden spikes or drops, and what caused them?
  4. The listing shows two different traffic figures. Which tool and which period does each come from?
